ACCESS STATEMENT Paradise House, Long Street, Croscombe, Wells, Somerset BA5 3QH Introduction
Paradise House is a detached Grade II Listed Georgian house in the centre of the small village of Croscombe, just 2.5 miles from Wells, England's smallest cathedral city. The house pre-dates the 1790s so has its own unique character.
I have 2 guest bedrooms - one double with en-suite facilities, and one twin room with private facilities. There may also be a single bedroom available. All bedrooms are on the first floor.
Pre-Arrival
It would be appreciated if you could let me know, a few days in advance, of your anticipated arrival time. I will endeavour to fit in with a time-scale that suits you; however generally speaking it should be after 2 pm to ensure your room is ready for you.
Paradise House is on the main road through the village, the A371, about 2.5 miles from Wells to the west and 2 miles from Shepton Mallet to the east.
There is a bus stop approx. 3 minutes walk from the house from where buses run hourly to Wells and to Shepton Mallet, and thence further afield.
The nearest railway station is at Castle Cary, some 8 miles away.
There are several taxi firms in the area and I can make bookings for you or give you telephone numbers.

Arrival & Car Parking
It would be appreciated if you can let me know, a few days in advance, of your anticipated arrival time. I will always endeavour to fit in with a time-scale that suits you; however generally speaking it should be after 4 pm to ensure that your room is ready for you.
The gravel driveway is at the side of the house and is quite narrow. Depending upon the size of the vehicle, there may be room for 2 cars with one car parked behind the other. Failing this there is almost always parking space in Coombe Green, a cul-de-sac diagonally opposite the house.
A narrow semi-circular concrete path leads to the front door. I can help you with your luggage.
You can settle in with a welcoming tray of tea or coffee & home-made cake – in your bedroom, in the sitting-room or garden, as you wish.
Main Entrance
The front door is wide, with a shallow threshold step into the hallway.
Hall, Stairs, & Landing
The hallway is carpeted. The carpeted staircase to the bedrooms runs up from the right of the hall, and has two turns to it, with a banister rail both sides. The landing has a window & window seat overlooking the back garden.
Sitting-room
Guests can relax in the peaceful fully carpeted sitting-room, no TV but lots of books. There are two sofas and an armchair and coffee table.
Dining-room
The dining-room is off the hallway, opposite the stairs. It has a wide door, with a very slightly raised wide wooden threshold, and is fully carpeted. Guests sit together for breakfast at the refectory table.
You will find a big green ring-binder with plenty of local information leaflets, etc., also some local history/guide books.
Bedrooms
All bedrooms are on the 1st floor and doors lead off the landing (a lamp is left on all night).
- Twin bedroom – 3' twin beds have a bedside table between them with a bedside lamp and clock radio. The bed by the window is accessible from one side only. 1 upholstered chair.
- Double bedroom - 4'6 bed is accessible from each side & has bedside tables with lamps on each, and a clock radio. 2 easy chairs.
All bedrooms have 19” flatscreen Freeview TV, kettle & well-stocked hospitality tray with biscuits (fresh milk provided), hairdryer, tissues & complimentary toiletries.
Travel cot available.
Folding guest bed available for child to share double room.
Bathroom/Shower-room & WC
- Twin room (or single room) has sole use of a shower-room, just across the landing, with WC & washbasin. The corner electric shower has a step into it and a bi-fold door. There is a chair, heated towel radiator and natural light from a window.
- Double bedroom has an en-suite with corner power shower with sliding doors and step into it. There is a heated towel radiator & cupboards under the basin. The lighting pull-cord controls both the ceiling light & fan & light over the mirror.
Back Garden
The back garden is best accessed via the kitchen and has a courtyard with a teak table and chairs.
The flagstone courtyard is very slippery when wet and must not be used then.
There are 5 wide natural stone steps up to the garden with trees, grass and borders, totally enclosed by high stone walls.
Guests may smoke in the garden but not, of course, in the house.
Additional Information
Long Street (the A371) is a busy road and there is a certain amount of traffic noise as bedrooms are at the front of the house.
There is pavement all through the village.
The village community shop is just a minute's walk away, selling newspapers, wine and an excellent range of good local produce.
There are 2 pubs within a 2-3 minute walk, both of which serve snacks and meals (12-2pm and 7-9pm) and they both have a level entrance-way with no step.
There is a well-equipped children's play area in the village, next to the Village Hall.
